Fashion Week News: Back to Basque with Joseph Altuzarra

We observed earthy colours with a hint of fire on crinkle-pleated close-cut pencil skirts, drop shoulder dresses, and relaxed jumpsuits, paired with classic Spanish espadrilles and sexed up with a stiletto. There is no need to say that we wanted it all! We snuck in a quick Q&A on inspiration, styling, and the keys to Spring 2016 with the man of the hour!

What is your focus for the Spring/Summer collection? What is your inspiration?

This season began as an exploration of my Basque heritage. I was inspired by the inherent beauty of the materials and crafts of the region, and the ease and humility they exuded.

Well-known stylist Vanessa Traina is the stylist of the show. Why did you choose her?

Vanessa is one of my best friends and someone I’ve worked with since the inception of the brand, along with Melanie Huynh, who also serves as my stylist for each collection.

Which 3 key items, according to you, are must-haves in women’s wardrobes for spring 2016?

The dip dye toggle skirt, the navy off-the-shoulder textured linen shirt, paired with a faux-wrap burlap slit skirt, and the Ghianda saddle bag in black Tourillon leather.

The line just launched its debut bag collection.
